He tenido el privilegio de reconocer diversas personalidades, entornos, comportamientos, costumbres, contradicciones, injusticias y aspectos socio-económicos y culturales mediante la interacción directa con las personas, comprendiendo sus orientaciones y diferentes puntos de vista. Lo anterior lo he realizado mediante la exploración de la diversidad geográfica colombiana y por medio de la inmersión en varios países de América Latina tales como: Brasil, Perú, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala y México; así como a través de viajes a Singapore, Las Filipinas, Albania, Croacia, Nepal, España, USA, Islandia, Francia, Italia, Grecia, Bulgaria, Rumania, República Checa, Austria, Hungría, Holanda, Suecia, Bélgica; y ahora desde Alemania.
Mi formación académica incluye un doctorado en Ciencias del Sistema Tierra, una maestría en Hidrogeología Tropical e Ingeniería Ambiental —financiada por una beca del DAAD— y un pregrado en Geología. A lo largo de mi trayectoria he investigado la dinámica del carbono en ecosistemas tan diversos como la meseta tibetana, los bosques boreales y las turberas restauradas, integrando monitoreo ambiental y modelación avanzada para mejorar la comprensión de las retroalimentaciones entre los ecosistemas y el clima.
Uno de los rasgos distintivos de mi carrera es mi experiencia transversal en los sectores académico, público, privado y no gubernamental. He trabajado en instituciones de investigación de referencia como el Instituto Max Planck de Biogeoquímica, la Universidad Leibniz de Hannover, la Universidad de California en Irvine y la Universidad Técnica de Darmstadt. En el sector público he colaborado con el IDEAM, el Servicio Geológico Colombiano, la Secretaría Distrital de Ambiente de Bogotá, la Empresa de Acueducto y Alcantarillado de Bogotá y la Contraloría General de la República. También he trabajado en consultoría ambiental e ingeniería y he colaborado con Censat Agua Viva – Amigos de la Tierra en iniciativas ambientales.
Presento regularmente mis investigaciones en congresos científicos internacionales, entre ellos la Unión Europea de Geociencias (EGU), la conferencia ICOS, el Programa Mundial de Investigación del Clima (WCRP) y el Global Young Scientists Summit. Además, participo activamente en la representación institucional dentro de la Sociedad Max Planck, promoviendo los intereses de los investigadores en etapas tempranas de su carrera y fortaleciendo la colaboración científica internacional.

I earned my bachelor's degree in Geology from the National University of Colombia, but my journey through the world began 26 years ago in the coffee-growing mountains of eastern Caldas, where my roots lie. The world's upheavals forced my family away from their agricultural vocation, and we eventually settled in Colombia's capital. That is where my conscious memory begins—and where I started collecting stories. Although many of these stories reflect the ordinary experiences that could belong to almost anyone, together they form my own journey through places, people, and cultures, driven by a deep curiosity to explore, interpret, and learn from the world.
I have had the privilege of encountering a remarkable diversity of personalities, landscapes, behaviors, traditions, contradictions, inequalities, and socio-economic and cultural realities through direct interaction with people from many walks of life. This perspective has grown through my exploration of Colombia's extraordinary geographic diversity and through immersive experiences across Latin America, including Brazil, Peru, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, and Mexico. My travels have also taken me to Singapore, the Philippines, Albania, Croatia, Nepal, Spain, the United States, Iceland, France, Italy, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, the Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary, the Netherlands, Sweden, Belgium, and now Germany, where I currently live and work.
Professionally, I am an Earth system scientist with a multidisciplinary background in geology, hydrogeology, environmental engineering, and biogeochemistry. My research focuses on understanding the interactions between climate, soils, water, and the global carbon cycle to explain and predict how ecosystems respond to environmental change. As a postdoctoral researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry in Germany, I develop innovative approaches to quantify greenhouse gas dynamics and soil carbon processes by integrating field observations, isotope geochemistry, process-based models, and data science.
My academic training includes a Ph.D. in Earth System Science, a master's degree in Tropical Hydrogeology and Environmental Engineering, supported by a DAAD scholarship, and a bachelor's degree in Geology. Throughout my scientific career, I have investigated carbon dynamics across diverse ecosystems—from the Tibetan Plateau to boreal forests and restored peatlands—combining environmental monitoring with advanced modeling to improve our understanding of the feedbacks between ecosystems and climate.
One of the defining features of my career is my cross-sector experience spanning academia, government, private industry, and non-governmental organizations. I have worked with internationally recognized research institutions, including the Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry, Leibniz University Hannover, the University of California, Irvine, and the Technical University of Darmstadt. In the public sector, I have collaborated with Colombia's Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies (IDEAM), the Colombian Geological Survey, the Bogotá Environmental Secretariat, the Bogotá Water and Sewerage Company, and the Office of the Comptroller General. I have also worked in environmental consulting and engineering and collaborated with Censat Agua Viva – Friends of the Earth on environmental initiatives.
I regularly present my research at major international scientific conferences, including the European Geosciences Union (EGU), the ICOS Conference, the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP), and the Global Young Scientists Summit. Beyond research, I actively contribute to the scientific community through institutional representation within the Max Planck Society, advocating for early-career researchers and promoting international scientific collaboration.
Whether through science, photography, travel, or writing, I am ultimately driven by the same purpose: to better understand the world, tell meaningful stories about it, and help bridge the gap between scientific knowledge and society.
